Reflection on Current State of London Art Galleries

On my recent trip to London to look at 4 exhibitions, two were at the Serpentine and the other two were at White Cube, it seams to me that the recent trend is that of American Art. 3 out of 4 of the shows I went to were by an American, and 2 of them were are also in there later stages of the careers Robert Irwin and Jimmie Durham. These main West End Galleries look like there putting big names in to attract large audiences. The only young artist was Rachel Rose who has only just recently graduated but even she had already won the Frieze prize last year, so these “Big” galleries do not seem to be a place were young British artist ever seem to get the chance to display here. Next time I will go to the East End of London, where I hope to find some young contemporary English Artists.
